Face-to-face training sessions

The learning material from the Timber Essentials course is also delivered in an intensive one-day face-to-face training session, led by David McElvenny (trainer). There is a particular emphasis on the wood technology and product knowledge modules.

Sessions are held periodically in regional centres around Australia and marketed locally to timber businesses in the area as they’re proposed.

The accredited course comprises a one day face-to-face session, plus the full set of workplace assignments to be completed over the following weeks via the student portal in the Building Learning website. Successful completion will result in a statement of attainment for the four units of competency.

Price for accredited Timber Essentials course including a one day face-to-face session: $600 (GST exempt) less 15%: $510 per participant.

The non-accredited version comprises the same face-to-face session, with the option of completing any assignments considered relevant to your needs, or no assignments at all if you prefer. All participants receive a certificate of completion.

Price for non-accredited Timber Essentials course – including a one day face-to-face session: $500 (including GST) less 15%: $425 per participant

There is an optional second face-to-face day for people enrolled in the accredited course, covering softwood structural grading. This hands-on practical course covers visual F-grading to AS 2858, plus the visual over-rides that apply to MGP-graded material. On successful completion, you will receive the unit of competency: FWPCOT2250 Visually stress grade softwood.

Price for accredited softwood grading (GST exempt): $500 less 15%: $425 per participant
