VALE SPIRO NOTARAS

13 Jan VALE SPIRO NOTARAS

It is with genuine sadness that I advise of the passing of a true legend and pioneer in timber industry, Spiro Notaras at the age of 83 on the 9 January 2016 after suffering a stroke last year.

Spiro owned and managed J Notaras & Sons Pty Ltd at Grafton on the North Coast of New South Wales and began sawmilling way back in 1952. In that time, Spiro has been a long time supporter of TTIA as well as many other relevant timber industry associations.

His business early on recognised the benefits of value adding our wonderful timber product and subsequently specialised in the production of high quality kiln dried hardwood flooring. The business is now widely recognised as one of the world’s best producers in hardwood flooring. The business was to become a major economic driver in the Clarence Valley area and one that supports the community in numerous projects, including the restoration of a much loved historic theatre in Grafton.

More than anything, Spiro Notaras was a gentleman with a huge heart, a committed family and community man and someone whose passion and pride in the timber industry and his country was always inspiring to those fortunate enough to know him. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

In the case of Spiro, it really was a life well lived. Vale Spiro Notaras.
