15 Jun PENDING FAIR WORK DECISION UPDATE
In response to a number of recent Member enquiries, Members are advised a decision on the new minimum wage/wage increase for the next financial year is due before the end of this month.
Members may recall the Fair Work Commission increased the minimum wage by 1.75% last year, the lowest increase in 12 years. Members will also recall that the increase was delayed due to the effects of COVID. It is possible any increase for low paid workers could again be deferred this year.
The union movement have sought a 3.5% increase while peak employer groups have argued the increase should be no more than 1.1% due in part to businesses suffering from COVID.
In addition to supporting a low wage increase, employer groups have highlighted that inflation is below 0.9% and employers are already locked into the payment of a 0.5% increase to superannuation from 1 July.
Furthermore, the conclusion of JobKeeper on 28 March has already placed additional pressure on employers retaining existing staff numbers.
Be assured, TTIA will notify Members as soon as the Fair Work Commission hands down its decision and send rates and allowances to Members for the relevant awards as soon as they are verified.
